Perfect timing — when to post (and when to engage)
Timing helps. It does not replace shipping interesting work, consistency, or high-quality replies. Treat these as audience-local defaults for founders / AI builders, then tune with your own analytics.
Priority order (don’t invert this)
- Interesting work + proof (screenshots, lessons)
- Meaningful interactions (comments on big threads)
- Consistency
- Timing & luck
A great comment under a post with 50k views can beat your own post. Optimize for relationships and help, not only scheduled publishing.
X (Twitter)
Recency-driven feed. Tweets often have a short engagement window (~30 minutes). Threads live longer because replies resurface them. Timing matters more here than on LinkedIn.
| Window | Local time | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Morning peak | 8:00–10:00 (esp. 9–11) | Original posts, reach |
| Lunch | 12:00–13:00 | Threads, longer reads |
| End of day | 17:00–18:00 | Short takes, lessons |
- Best days: Tue–Thu (Wed often strongest). Mon–Fri for B2B.
- Weaker: Late night 01:00–05:00; weekends softer for B2B (indie audiences still browse Sat).
- Cadence: Space originals ≥2 hours. Aggressive: 2 posts/day + 30–50 replies.
- India → US audience: Post to US morning ET (roughly 18:30–20:30 IST) and IST morning for local founders.
Algorithm can distribute for 48–72 hours. Timing matters less than on X — quality story + early comments matter more.
| Day | Strong windows (audience local) |
|---|---|
| Tue–Thu | Best overall — 07:30–09:30 and 11:00–16:00 |
| Mon / Fri | Decent mornings; avoid late Friday dump |
| Weekend | Usually weakest for professional feed |
- Cadence: 1 strong post/day (aggressive) or 3–5/week (normal).
- Engage: Comment in the first hour on others’ posts; reply to every comment on yours.
- Avoid emoji-only comments (🔥 / “Nice”). Tell a short story.
Timing is subreddit-specific. More important: sort by New, answer early, and respect promo tiers. See reddit-communities.md.
- Engage: Fresh posts (<60 min) with <10 comments — highest leverage.
- US-heavy subs: Often lively evenings ET and weekend afternoons.
- India subs: Evenings IST work well for conversation.
- Posts: Tier A (r/startups, r/Entrepreneur) — lessons only in feed; launches in stickies / Tier E.
- Reply to every reply on your comments (aggressive mode).
Hacker News
- US morning ET is a common peak for visibility on the front page.
- No promo voice. Technical substance only. Rare posts; thoughtful comments.
Product Hunt
- Launch days run on Pacific Time (midnight PT start).
- Daily use for this brand calendar: scan launches, congratulate makers, learn positioning — not spam.
Handbook day vs peak posts
| Block | Clock (handbook) | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Intelligence | 07:30 | Catch overnight launches before writing |
| Community scan | 08:00 | Observe before posting |
| Opportunity hunt | 08:30 | Early comments win threads |
| X / LI originals | Peak windows above | Align Create phase with audience awake time |
| Review | Night | Ask why — not only counts |
Timezone strategy for Viraj (IST base)
- Primary product audience (global founders): schedule X/LI peaks in their zone (often ET).
- India ecosystem (r/StartUpIndia, etc.): engage evenings IST.
- Aggressive days may need two X waves: IST morning + ET morning.
What not to optimize
- Don’t chase “perfect minute” instead of shipping Startup HQ.
- Don’t batch-spam the same promo across 18 subreddits.
- Don’t promise yourself follower counts — track weekly action targets.
